Avatar: The Way of Water He has a complicated mission to accomplish. Due to the high production costs, the James Cameron film has to rake in a huge amount of money at the international box office. Although the first weekend was positive, the expected numbers were not reached, so Disney shares are at risk.
According to several analysts, since The Way of Water failed to meet revenue expectations in China over the past few days, Disney shares declined by 4.77%, a point not seen since March 2020. That is to say, it has fallen equaling the moment in which the pandemic forced all movie theaters to close. As if that were not enough, MarketWatch has pointed out that the mouse company could suffer the sharpest drop in stock price it has seen since 1974.
In this regard, Tony Chambers, head of distribution in Disney theaters, has indicated that this is due to COVID restrictions in China. This was what was said about it:
“The problem is that nobody wants to go to the movies, because they have been told that COVID is extremely dangerous. Although the cinemas are open, there is not much desire to go to them ”.
In this way, it is clear that Avatar: The Way of Water could well turn out to be a flop for Disney, although it is still too early to point to the tape like this. We can only wait and see what will happen with the new James Cameron movie. Will it be able to match the success of its predecessor?

Editor’s Note:
Avatar: The Way of Water is in a rather difficult position. This is a good movie, and it has done well at the box office, but considering how expensive it was, it takes the movie industry to be in a position it may not already be in to get the desired results.
