I have already played SUPERVIVE, and I will tell you what my impressions have been
Anyone who knows me knows perfectly well that I rarely play massively multiplayer titles. Over the years I have tended to specialize in single-player story video games, not only out of personal taste, but out of convenience in various aspects. Even so, the truth is that from time to time I enjoy a few quick games with friends, and the fact is that titles like Overwatch 2 or Fortnite continue to make me enjoyand I have even come to fall in love with newcomers like The Finals or XDefiant.
Now I have had the opportunity to test a very particular title for several hours, which It doesn't just add to the list of multiplayer video games, but rather offers a mix of genres that could squeak at first. Next, I will offer you my impressions of SUPERVIVEthe title formerly known as Project Loki.
A surprising but workable mix
I'm the first one who, when I heard about this title, was surprised. In essence, we can say that it is a Battle Royale, but also has Hero-Shooter elements, but in addition to all this it has a type of camera and abilities that are reminiscent of MOBA titles in the style of League of Legends, something logical considering where some of those responsible for this project come from. Frankly, this seems like a hodgepodge of ideas that are difficult to square with each other, but really This perception disappears as soon as you decide to give it a chance. and try it.
It has many systems, and the truth is that with what has been played, I can't discern if they are all very well integrated, but the truth is that nothing clashes at any time. The skills are more than interesting, and the system that allows you to kill NPCs to level up (as in the classic MOBAs) is very well implemented, but also the large map that it offers us is very well designed, so much so that you can lose yourself in it for quite some time just admiring how it was created. Even so, there is a specific system that, although it is interesting, and offers a deeper layer for level design, I didn't quite like its implementation: the plan.
The SURVIVE map It is full of precipices and unevenness, and the plenary session is the only way to move forward in certain cases, but it can also be our downfall. Not only is it that when we are planning and we are hit we fall directly, leaving us very exposed to enemy attacks, but also adds an extra layer of terrain exploration, which hasn't suited me particularly well in a frenetic game in which combat is so important. Even so, I would like to emphasize that this is a suspicion based on my opinion after a few hours of playing, but that may not represent what my opinion would be after dedicating many dozens of hours to it.
SUPERVIVE's mix of genres may sound strange, but in practice it seems to work.
Frantic, complex and fun
The first thing I thought when I started playing SUPERVIVE was that the interaction of systems, while I have already noted that it is mechanically successful, it could offer a somewhat annoying layer of depth for users less talented in this type of game, but shortly after starting to play I realized that this would not be the case. Yes, it is complex on many levels, offering some resistance when it comes to mastering all its mechanics and possibilities, but it is also very easy to learn the basics. This ends up translating into somewhat complicated initial gamesespecially if you choose a character that does not use pure shooter mechanics, but the truth is that it is very easy to learn the basics, and start leading a team that has a chance of victory.
In my particular case, I had a first game that was somewhat difficult to narrate. Not everything went well, and my teammates had to revive me on several occasions, but in the end we managed to win, not so much because of our own performance that could be described as mediocre, but rather because of a conjunction of circumstances that allowed us to emerge victorious without even having to face the penultimate enemy team. On the other hand, as soon as I entered another game, another rooster crowed. I made 10 eliminations and 4 assists, becoming the best on the team, thus allowing the rest of my teammates to shine. I won't say that I became a master of the character I chose, because later I continued using him and I couldn't replicate those numbers, but yes I could see the funniest side of the game.
I would like to stop precisely on this last point, and that is that at first anyone would think that it is a tactical and methodical game, leaving aside the freneticism that we can find in other Battle Royales. The curious thing is that this is a real prejudice, probably induced by the chosen camera system, given that the battles could not be more frenetic and fun, forcing the player to be in motion all the time, especially taking advantage of all the possibilities of movement that offers the title, either to flee from an impossible combat, or even to attack an enemy that avoids you. Still, I would like to point out that sometimes, when several teams joined us, The fighting ended up being chaos in which it was difficult to understand anythingand in which the one who managed to cast his ultimate ability the most times, or even the one who had the luckiest at that moment, would win.
Survival's combat is fun, frenetic, and even tactical.
A question of variety
We are facing a Battle Royale game, as I have already pointed out, but This does not mean that there are not several modes. In my case, I was able to enjoy the squads mode, which turns out to be the main mode of the title, and which has turned out to be a true experience. Perhaps the 40 total players we have per game feel small for the size of the map, leaving meeting other teams completely to chance. This results in many times we will have games in which we will not meet anyone until the endwhile in others we will have so many confrontations that we will arrive exhausted at the end of the game.
We also find two more modes, which correspond to the duos mode and the 4v4 deathmatch, both quite well known among regular players of multiplayer titles.
Beyond this, I must tell you that the games have much more to do than kill us, and that, although the main objective will be to defeat all the enemies and be alive at the end of the game, we can do certain things that will help us progress. Defeating NPC enemies will help us improve our character, while capturing camps will not only allow us to heal, but they will act as a kind of radar, since when passing enemies we will receive a warning, which will allow us to prepare ambushes if you decide to play tactically. Of course, your use of These kinds of possibilities will depend entirely on you.but it is true that, although the main game mode is one, within it we can find certain ramifications in the way it is played.
In SURVIVE we will find many ways to progress in the game.
An experience with a lot of potential
You have probably deduced it after reading these lines, but clearly SURVIVE surprised me. The choice of camera and genre had thrown me off, as did the strange mix of elements from different genres, but in the end I have found a fun and frenetic gameplaywhich also offers space to play tactically, and which has left me wanting much more.
Luckily, I won't have to wait long, as it has been announced that SUPERVIVE will offer its open beta at the end of this year 2024.
