This is one of the most important scenes in the fourth season of the series.
The fourth season of Demon Slayer and the 'Pillar Training' story arc have had as their main priority showing viewers the necessary training that our protagonist must do to improve his skills and become a worthy rival for Muzan Kibutsuji, King of Demons and main antagonist of the work.
Like Tanjiro, other hunters such as Inosuke Hashibira and Zenitsu Agatsuma have ventured to carry out this demanding training coordinated by the Pillars, which has left us some of the funniest scenes of the entire seasonHowever, one that particularly caught the attention of viewers was the one starring a taciturn Zenitsu who decided to stay away from his companions after read a letter that he kept in his hands. What is the meaning behind this scene?
The following lines include spoilers from chapters 143 and 144 of the Demon Slayer manga.
The reason why Zenitsu became furious after reading the letter
The letter Zenitsu read in episode 7 reported that his master Jigoro Kuwajima He had decided to take his own life after discovering that one of his students had become a demon at the service of Muzan Kibutsuji.
The pain that this sad news brought with it intensifies even more when Zenitsu discovers that the student is Kaigakua young swordsman he met in person and with whom he practiced the Lightning Breathing Technique. Zenitsu also learned after reading the letter Chuntaro gave him that Jigoro decided to commit nothing less than seppuku, also known as harakiri, which caused him an extremely slow and painful death that the old Pillar did not deserve to suffer at all.
At this point we have to move to a series of events that occur in chapters 143 and 144 of the manga, which showed us the reunion and inevitable confrontation between Zenitsu and a Kaigaku turned into the new Upper Sixth Moon. Before fighting, Zenitsu lamented to Kaigaku that there was no one to behead Jigoro after performing the seppuku and at least give him a somewhat quicker death. Kaigaku's reaction was surprising, as he boasted about the death of his former teacher and even claimed that I didn't feel any kind of sorrow or regret.
Kaigaku's words ended up provoking deep anger in an already disappointed Zenitsu, making way for one of the most exciting battles of the 'Infinite Dimensional Fortress' arc, also showing us the incredible power increase that Zenitsu achieved after his training with the Pillars.
