This isn't the first time FromSoftware has toyed with the idea of near-immortal enemies. Just remember the prank played by the Idol of Fools boss in Demon's Souls Remake. I won't say any more to avoid spoilers. Now, they're repeating the trick in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree… although this time they're using normal enemies.
Reach the Abyssal Forest Shadow of the Erdtree It's not exactly intuitive, and the reward for doing so isn't exactly pretty: a swampy forest in constant darkness and dominated by the Frenzied Flame, also known as Madness. While it hides a very interesting story, it can be a headache for many players. The reason? Some very specific enemies.
The Winter Lanterns or Untouchables are unique and special enemies in Elden Ring. The video game itself warns you with several messages: “Hide. Don't make noise”, “Wait for the right moment” and “You can't fight now.” Additionally, it encourages players to use bushes and stealth to avoid them. If you get caught, there is a 90% chance you will die.
However, they are not as untouchable or immortal as they think. There is a relatively simple way to fight and kill them: the parry. You don't need special stats or abilities, just a small shield with War Ash to perform the move. As for how to proceed, just get close enough, get their attention, block and counterattack, as we show in the video. Once dead, they don't come back out no matter how happy you feel. Hit them hard and without fear!
