I give you my impressions after having been able to see several levels of the 10:10 Games title
In the last decade, Funko Pops have made a big name for themselves in the market, making collectors from all over the world fall in love with them, thanks to the wide variety of IPs that have offered this kind of collectible figures. Taking this into account, its very particular style, and especially the excellent success of the LEGO games, it was natural that at some point a brave development team decided to make an adaptation of them to our medium, and The result of this is Funko Fusion.
The 10:10 Games studio, made up of experienced professionals in our industry, is in charge of offering us this experience, which has raised many comments. Now we are just a few months away from its launch day, which is set for next September 13, and I have had the pleasure of seeing an extended gameplay from Arthur Parsonsco-founder of the studio and director of Funko Fusion.
Thanks to this demonstration I have been able to get an idea of what we can expect from this proposaland although it has left me wanting to try it to better clarify my ideas, it has left me with a better taste in my mouth than all the trailers shown previously. Below I give you all the details.
A thematic common thread
As we learned thanks to the LEGO games, the most important thing is not 100% that it offers us a good adaptation of the sagas it offers us, but rather that be able to have your own identity. With Funko it is perhaps somewhat more complicated, given that we have a thematic line that focuses solely on the characters, but having little reference to what the worlds these characters inhabit would be. In this case, it has been decided to maintain the essence of Funko, with its characteristic boxes and the big-headed and minimalist design of the characters, but all framed in settings that They ride halfway between photorealism and cartoonand frankly I think it was a difficult decision to make.
Not only does it maintain the essence of Funko, but It is effective in terms of designadapting to current standards. Even so, and despite the fact that I believe that It has been a good design idea given the difficulties that this project entails, I think it manages not to be especially recognizable.
The characters, their animations and everything that concerns them made me fall in love with this presentation. The essence has been capturedwith simple and cartoonish movements, and even a touch of gore that is curious and shocking, but also fun. Even so, the scenario we find ourselves in can be somewhat cloned in certain situations, given that it has been chosen an art style that can fit virtually any IPbut at the same time that makes it unmemorable.
As I have already said, I cannot say anything categorically. I have only had the pleasure of having seen three levels, in addition to the central hub of the gameand although in all cases I had the same feeling, at the moment I do not know if it will be transferred to the game in its entirety. In addition, I would like to point out again that what concerns the Funkos as such – the design of the characters and so on – It seems to have been treated with great care.and with that alone we can say that we gained a lot.
Action, puzzles and fun
Something that was clear to me, and that frankly excited me, was the playable aspect of Funko Fusion, and it reminded me much more of LEGO games than I expected, offering what seems to be a very focused approach to environmental puzzlesat the same time we have a wide variety of action sections.
Again, this isn't something I can say categorically, as I haven't been able to test it myself, but in this presentation it was really clear to me what I can expect. As I have already said, the first focus will be the puzzles, which we can find in different forms, many of them framed in the particularities of specific IPs. These may be mandatory to advance, but we were also shown that in certain cases we will find environmental puzzles that will allow us to move forward in a somewhat more interesting wayeven though we have other simpler and more direct options.
All of this is tied together with the action sections, especially combat, which pleasantly surprised me. All of the characters we can use will have two types of attack: ranged and melee. Our character will have to combine both options to succeed in combat, which can be our biggest obstacle when advancing in each level.
Speaking of characters, I would like to point out that We find more than 60 selectable characters based on the different franchises that we will find in Funko Fusion, such as Jurassic World, The Thing, or The Umbrella Academy. All of them will be personalized, and will resemble in many ways their counterparts within their franchises, or at least that is what the cases I was able to observe reflect. Furthermore, Arthur Parsons assured us that we would not have any type of microtransaction in this titleso all the characters will be unlocked by advancing in the adventure, which is very good news.
Thematic worlds with a spun plot
Unfortunately, during this presentation I was not able to learn many details about what we could expect from Funko Fusion's narrative, but I was able to get an idea of how it will be spun. It seems that we found a common thread about which we were not given many details, but This will unite the different thematic levels of third-party IPsoffering a unified experience that looks like it will be more than interesting.
As I have already mentioned, I have only been able to see some levels, or more specifically those based on Jurassic World, He-Man and Jawsand all of them were directly reminiscent of their counterparts. To give a clearer opinion I would like to be able to try more worlds and do so in depth, but for now I think I am in the position of power that each one will have a very different theme, in which The particularities of each franchise will be taken advantage of.
Notably we will have a game in which several IPs come together, instead of following the example of LEGO (the clearest exponent), in which each title is based on a different franchise, or at least that is the case in most cases. This is clearly not a coincidence, and perhaps this is the best way to make your universe known, and although it is still I am not in a position to say whether it will work as a whole.I think it might be a good idea.
Furthermore, during the presentation we were informed that The story will last between 12 and 16 hours or so., although this only applies to the main narrative. On the other hand, we were told that there would be a lot of secondary content available so that players can make the most of everything that Funko Fusion offers.
The die is cast
After seeing this demonstration I think I can say that Some of my doubts have been dispelled, but others are still there. For now, the best we can do is wait until Funko Fusion launches on September 13, at which time we can try it out for ourselves and render a verdict, but yes, I have been able to get an idea of what to expect.
We will see if Everything positive that I have been able to find is transferred to the entire final productand if the doubts that it has generated in me manage to tip towards the positive side of the scale. For now it is all doubts and few certainties, although clearly the impression has been goodbut not perfect at all.
