A few weeks ago, Deep Beyond was launched, a narrative video game from the Argentine studio AVIX; who had made several titles for Cartoon Network.
Deep Beyond is available for PC. The game was announced to be coming to consoles in late 2024.
Do you really think there is any treasure here?… This whole ship is a treasure
In Deep Beyond we put ourselves in the shoes of Lilly, a young explorer aboard your boat and with the company of your faithful canine companion Chester. She is on the verge of discovering a treasure hidden for years but she is not the only one who is looking for it. And the closer she gets, she also remembers details of her past and the relationship she had with her absent father.
When we were kids, we all grew up with the magical idea of exploring and discovering pirate treasures in the deepest part of the ocean. Perhaps it was a desire that occurred to millions of boys and girls who watched “The Goonies” in the 80s and also identified themselves with finding objects like Indiana Jones or Lara Croft (today would it be Nathan Drake?).
Deep Beyond is a narrative exploration game divided into a series of chapters that takes us into the mystery of the hidden treasure. The adventure lasts no more than an hour but it is an incredible work by an independent studio.
In addition to exploration, the game has some simple puzzles to create a different kind of gameplay. The only thing I didn't like so much was that the protagonist didn't run; I understand the slow pace but there were some scenes where a little more pace would have been good.
And speaking of tranquility, its artistic design exudes exactly that.
A beautiful color palette ranging from sepia tones for the memories and a beautiful variety of colors both in the underwater explorations and when we walk through the houses and the shore. With characters that have the same design to be in composition with the settings.
Finally, both the English voice cast and the sounds as we walk through the water in a diving suit are very well done. And the music appears sparingly but at some decisive moments.
- It has a beautiful visual section
- The story falls into some clichés but is entertaining.
- It's a short game, but it's clear that there's a lot of effort put into future projects.
Conclusion
Deep Beyond is a short story that goes beyond discovering a treasure. It has beautiful graphics and it is clear that AVIX Games is on the right track to carry out its next project.
