Several days ago we learned that the new Exorcist movie will have Mike Flanagan as director. The filmmaker has become one of the great references of horror cinema and Universal wants to count on him for the future of one of his most emblematic sagas.
However, it seems that Flanagan's dream goes much further than The Exorcist. Through his Twitter account, the American filmmaker cited a tweet in which a poster made by a fan of Nightmare in Elm street directed by himself, to which he responded: “A boy can dream…”.
Although it's just a tweet, it's clear that Flanagan is burning with desire to revive the saga of Nightmare in Elm street, a franchise that since 2010 has not shown signs of life. The last film, which functioned as a reboot, did not have the expected success and New Line Cinema decided to shelve the franchise.
Although it is completely unknown if this villain will return, it must be emphasized that the rights to the character once again became part of Wes Craven, original creator of Freddy Krueger. Therefore, if Flanagan wants to bring this character back, he will have to meet with the legendary director's relatives to reach an agreement and move forward with the franchise.
