Almost a fifth of Czechs over the age of 16 describe themselves as gamers. 65% of people play a game on PC, console or mobile at least occasionally. And they are the most popular game genre among domestic players strategy. This and much more was shown by the data from the new TIGO DNA survey of gamers, which was commissioned by Smarty and JRC.
The new data shows what has long been known in the gaming community, but may come as a surprise to a lot of people outside of it. Playing PC, console or mobile games is not just for kids. At least occasionally, 65% of Czechs between the ages of 16 and 80 play a game on a computer, console or mobile phone. Those who spend at least 7 hours a week playing games, i.e. at least an hour a day on average, are 22 percent of the population over 16, i.e. more than a fifth.
JRC and Smarty, the largest gaming retailer in the Czech Republic, which is behind the survey, confirm that gaming is a matter for adults as well. “Many of our customers we meet at the stores are adults. They often got into playing in their youth and it has lasted as a hobby to this day. They often pass on their love of games to children, thanks to the existence of multiplayer games suitable for children, such as It Takes Two, which is often among the best-selling games in our country.” says Petr Kratochvíl for the seller.
That we are serious about playing games is also shown by the fact that 18% of respondents over the age of 16 fully or rather agree with the term gamer. Logically, they are much more often the younger ones – 43% of the population aged 16-25 are gamers. Between the ages of 26-35, 33.5% of respondents identify themselves as such, and 22.3% of respondents agree with the designation as gamers from the age of 36-45.
And it is far from only men, although there are slightly more of them in the gamer population: 22.5% of men would describe themselves as gamers, while it is 13.3% of women.
“The data clearly shows that the classic gamer is not just a young boy who turns on the computer after school and plays until the night. The group of gamers is very diverse and includes everyone who enjoys gaming and devotes time to it like any other hobby. It would also be good to mention the phenomenon of streamers, which is followed by a considerable number of players and non-players, where their age range is also very wide, although the stereotype could again speak more about the younger generation. But the opposite is true, and each creator has his own unique style and thus can attract a specific group of fans. I will mention names like Agraelus, Mazarini or Andullie, with whom we have been cooperating for a long time and who can help players find a new perspective on, for example, the type or style of games that they have neglected so far.” describes Petr Kratochvíl.
