The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always special, coming to Netflix next month, has more than one missing Ranger. One of these is Amy Jo Johnson (known as Kimberly, the original Pink Power Ranger), who opened up about why she didn’t participate in the meeting.
Last week Netflix released the official trailer for Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always, the nostalgic special that will bring together the power Rangers to face an enemy from the past. However, not all rangers originals will be present. A great absence will be that of Amy Jo Johnsonwho gave life to kimberleythe first Pink Ranger. The actress recently talked about why she will not be present.
Amy Jo Johnson was the Pink Ranger from 1993 to 1995, with a small comeback in Turbo Power Rangers and a cameo in the 2017 reboot. However, her career continued to grow out of this world. She acted in series like felicity and flash pointrecorded albums and also directed films like Tammy’s always dying and episodes of Superman & Lois. But apparently it is not for any of this that Johnson will not be at the meeting for the 30th anniversary of the Power Rangers.
Although at first Amy Jo Johnson had clarified that he never said no to the special, but rather that he had not accepted what was offered to him, the actress turned to her social networks again to ask them to stop saying that she rejected her participation for money. “Please stop saying I wasn’t at the meeting for money, it’s just not true. Maybe I didn’t want to wear lycra at 50 or I couldn’t go to New Zealand for a month. Or it’s none of your business”, he tweeted.
Besides this, Johnson also added: “Jason David Frank and I decided not to for our reasons. They recorded before he died.”. With this, the actress confirms why we saw in the trailer of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always a small tribute to Thuy Trang, actress who played Trini the Yellow Rangerand who died in 2001, and not from Frankactor who played Tommyhe Green Ranger, and that he died last year.
To these absences is also added that of austin st johnwho played Jason Lee Scott the first Red Ranger. So far, the actor has not said anything about it and it is not yet known if he will be part of the special. The rangers originals that did say present were David Yost (Billy, Blue Ranger) and Walter E. Jones (Zack, Black Ranger).
The synopsis for this special reads: “Thirty years after the wise and mighty zordon brought them together, power Rangers they come face to face with a familiar threat from the past. In the midst of a global crisis, they are called once again to be the heroes the world needs. This 30th anniversary special is inspired by the franchise’s legendary mantra: ‘Once a Ranger, always a Ranger’, which means the Ranger family will always be waiting for you.”
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always will bring back the empress Rita Repulsa (interpreted by Barbara Goodson) in robotic version, who is out for revenge. TO Goodson, Yost and Jones they add up Catherine Sutherland (as Kat, the second Pink Ranger), Steve Cardenas (as Rocky, the second Red Ranger), Karan Ashley (as Aisha, Yellow Ranger) and Johnny Yong Bosch (Adam, Black Ranger).
This nostalgic special will reach Netflix on April 19.
