The Summer Game Fest 2024 was full of new features, but fantasy RPG fans got a good taste in their mouths with the new trailer for Metaphor: ReFantazio, where plot details were expanded and small glimpses into the importance of the Archetype mechanics were shown. As if a new trailer were not enough, ATLUS held a Metaphor: ReFantazio Showcase to show 20 minutes of unreleased gameplay, showing in depth the new features of the combat system in the game.
The first trailer shown at the Summer Game Fest gala left fans of the genre more than impressed due to the visuals and the fluidity of small fragments of gameplay. Accompanied by a soundtrack sung in the style of epic opera, Metaphor: ReFantazio has been embedded in the minds of the players who watched the presentation.
Metaphor: ReFantazio details the mechanics of Archetypes with 20 minutes of never-before-seen gameplay
The new exclusive gameplay of the ATLUS channel went even deeper into what was seen during the night of the Summer Game Fest, and they have presented up to 14 kinds of Archetypes which are subdivided into more than 40 different species with their own abilities, unique animations and the ability to evolve to be even more powerful.

Although it seems like a SMT species: Person due to the invocation of magical spirits, the lack of the fusion mechanic separates it quite a bit from this franchise. However, it shares more with its distant brother Shin Megami Tensei III than you might expect, since the action-based combat system will reward players who manage to land critical hits or affect enemy weaknesses, maintaining turns and additional actions that facilitate combat.
The surprises that keep Metaphor: ReFantazio are countless, and there are still a few months left before we can fully immerse ourselves in the diplomatic conflict in which they intend to involve us. With release date set for October 11 2024, the new ATLUS IP will have to compete with other titles such as Dragon Ball Sparking Zero and Sonic x Shadow Generations.
