Any Batman fan who has seen The dark knight by Christopher Nolan I'm sure you remember the conversation in which Alfred says, “Know your limits, Mr. Wayne,” to which Bruce replies, “Batman has no limits.” Although he is very heroic and certainly has admirable resistance, he is still a human and absolutely everything ends up taking its toll.
Nolan's iconic little phrase is inspired by others that we can read in comics: “All men have limits. They learn what they are and learn not to exceed them. I ignore mine” or “Bruce Wayne is hurt, but Batman is not”, as pick up the CBR medium. This mentality has led Batman to disaster on several occasions, being Knightfall the most notable event: when Bane broke his back.
Bruce Wayne's current state in the comics is not the best and fans fear that a new Knightfall will soon take place. He hasn't rested for a single moment since the whole Failsafe thing started and has been exhibiting the same symptoms for some time now: hallucinations, excessive use of force, emotional instability, difficulty focusing, and a flat refusal to take a break. Needless to say, he refuses to ask the Bat-Family for help. Unlike superman and Wonder WomanBruce is human and battles crush his body much more.
It was at a family dinner where he had one of the most terrifying hallucinations: he saw how all his loved ones were on fire and he stood watching helplessly. Unless things change, everything seems to indicate a new physical and mental collapse of Batman. And no one can blame him: battle against the plans of the Joker, Zur-En-Arrh and Failsafe, and company would drive anyone crazy. Maybe this time he will decide to bow out early, like The Dark Knight Returns version did. And here comes the eternal question: who is worthy of donning the cape of the crusader?
