Yves Guillemot as CEO of Ubisoft claims that Star Wars Outlaws they failed because of too high expectations. He defends the new product from the Massive studio and talks about a challenging market. But in reality, action-adventure doesn't sell well at all.
Ubisoft isn't talking about Star Wars Outlaws sales. Insider Gaming managed to find out that the action-adventure game is on his account million units sold. By the end of August, sales of approximately 800,000 copies were speculated. Smaller publishers and developers would be happy with such a result, but Ubisoft simply expected more from a big-budget game.
Just for comparison, smaller Assassin's Creed Mirage reached 5 million units sold within three months of release. In the French company, they can now hope that players will get a taste for Star Wars Outlaws before the end of the year. They have help update with bug fixesas well as the release of the game's first expansion scheduled for November 21st. The game will be available on Steam on the same day.
We remind you of the postponement Assassin's Creed: Shadows from November/November 2024 to February/February 2025. Ubisoft gave developers more time to fix bugs and tweak the game because they realized one important thing: In order for a game to sell well, it has to be of good quality. In part, this is a reaction to the failure of Star Wars Outlaws.
You will find out in our review that “Star Wars Outlaws is an action-adventure game that, on the one hand, brings good and fresh ideas, but on the other hand, copies the same procedures as every other game from Ubisoft. While the game manages to create a vibrant world that any Star Wars fan will love and a fun reputation system, it falters on generic gameplay and one-size-fits-all quests. If you haven't played a Ubisoft game in so long, you're probably in for a treat. But if you're looking for anything more, Star Wars Outlaws simply isn't it.”
