After the clear failure of the film based on the saga
Borderlands is now perhaps in a bit of a slump. Its games have proven for years that the Borderlands formula is Looter-shooters had a place in single-player experiencesand even its second installment is widely considered to be one of the best shooters in history, but the recent film in the series has managed to create a less than positive consensus among viewers: it is a video game-to-film adaptation like those of before. Despite this setback for the IP, which has resulted in a poor box office opening weekendthis has little to do with their video games, which seem to be having a great moment.
You might be wondering then why we mentioned the film, and it was in this context that Randy Pitchford, CEO of Gearbox, made a post on X/Twitter in which came close to officially confirming Borderlands 4.
“You like what my friends and I do,” he says, referring to the fact that he likes it more than what “some of the biggest and best casts and crews of filmmakers on the planet have done.” But that's not the most interesting part, since ends with the following sentence“We're working very hard for what's next.”

So what you're saying is: You like what my friends and I do with our Borderlands video games even more than you like what some of the biggest and best cast and crew of film makers on the planet have done. I'm super flattered! We're working extra hard four you on what's next….

What the saga needs now
As we have already mentioned, Borderlands 4 as such has not yet been announced, but it is not the first time that someone from Gearbox refers directly to the next installment of this beloved saga. A few months ago, rumors arose that we could see the first trailer for it at Geoff Keighley's Summer Game Fest 2024, but it ultimately turned out to be a false alarm.
Still, and taking into account what has already been said about the film and its clear failure in critics and at the box office, we can say that Borderlands urgently needs some oxygenin order to regain the affection of the fans. Their titles may not be remembered as part of the best games in history, but They have a clear place in the hearts of fans.
