You may not know it, but Days Gone and Syphon Filter They were created by the same studio, although not under the same name. Today it is called Bend Studios, but years ago it was called 989 Studios. Now that you know this, you will surely not be surprised at all to know that both video games are so connected that they seem like a sequel and a prequel respectively.
Bend Studios introduced many references in Days Gone and the most referenced work is Syphon Filterthe one that put the studio on the map. Today I want to review them as a curiosity in case you missed them when playing the adventure. The most obvious one corresponds to collectible number 28, which is found in the Cloverfield Laboratory. This document mentions several aspects of the game:
This came to us through a contact at the IPCA. I tried to follow up with the main agents involved; Agents Logan, Xing and Lipan, but their files are classified.
- Agents Logan, Xing and Lipan are characters that appear in the Syphon Filter series. You can check their wikis by clicking on their names.
- The document expressly mentions the name of Syphon Filter and notes that the Days Gone virus originated in Ukraine, which is one of the locations in which the original video game's missions are set.

This data led players to believe that both video games were set in the same universe, and this is still believed to be the case today. It was then believed that Days Gone 2 would shed some light on this matter, but we didn't know that Sony had already dug the grave for this franchise. And it doesn't look like Syphon Filter is coming back either.
Finally, Bend Studios introduced two other references, one more obvious than the other. The IPCA taser is a clear reference to the stun gun we see in Syphon Filter and its operation is proof that it is no coincidence. And to top it off, the “I'm All Ears” Trophy asks us to collect 989 monster ears. I don't think I need to explain the reference after the introduction.
