A milestone for the studio and the publisher.
Hidetaka Miyazaki has become, in just a few years, a benchmark within our industry. Not only has he revived a company, but he has also invented a genre that many love today, something that can be seen reflected in the independent scene, in which many titles take ideas from the so-called “Souls”. During the past year, and to everyone’s joy, we received what is considered the first work of this Japanese director, and that is that Elden Ring has managed to break barriers.
Although other titles by the director himself achieved fame, such as Blooborne or Dark Souls 3, the one that has managed to return to the genre one “mass”, to call it somehow, is Elden Ring. There are many factors that have influenced this rise to Olympus, but we could say that its general quality, as you can see in our Elden Ring analysis, is one of the most determining factors.
For this reason, and although this genre had always been niche, we are not at all surprised that it is selling so well, but now we have known the updated sales figure, and as you can see, surely has exceeded all expectations that the study and the publisher could have.
Elden Ring, a real bestseller
Now, Bandai Namco, publisher of this title, has officially announced that Elden Ring has surpassed 20 million copies soldquite a milestone considering that we are talking about a genre that, until recently, was considered cult, and therefore did not receive much attention from the general public.
This undoubtedly will allow FromSoftware to continuefurther perfecting this genre that they have invented, and bringing us experiences like we have never seen before, and especially, video games that are among the most difficult in history, since this is the differentiating factor that has made them known.
Of course, it is necessary to mention that we are still waiting for confirmation of the rumors about the DLC, which were very reliable, but we have not yet been able to learn anything about them. Hopefully sooner or later, FromSoftware gives us a surprise in this regard.
