Electronic Arts lays off over 200 Apex Legends employees

The downward economic trend due to inflation and other financial issues is global and, naturally, it also affects the video game industry. After recently living the massive layoff of more than 10,000 Microsoft workers that affected 343 Industries, The Coalition and Bethesda, now Electronic Arts lays off over 200 Apex Legends employees. This is how the portal has made it known Insider Gamingwhich has been able to confirm that it is the entire division of quality control testers in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, who had been working on Respawn Entertainment’s battle royale for years after having done so on the Battlefield saga.

According to this medium, all employees were summoned to a mandatory meeting via Zoom, method by which the entire workforce was dismissed. As we have been commenting in recent years, the video game industry, especially the American one, has been targeting this department, mostly not belonging to the parent company and with lower working conditions than other jobs, as happened with Raven Software in within Activision Blizzard and the consequent unionization of the North American company in order to obtain a job stability that they did not have.

Regarding the issue that concerns us today, and as Insider Gaming has learned, the dismissal of the entire quality control section would be due to the confirmation that the UK and Romanian sections can perform the same job as the one in Baton Rouge at a lower cost, so Electronic Arts would have cut out there. Meanwhile, Apex Legends continues to add content and seasons in a battle royale that never goes out of style and that always has its community very active.
