Although the saga Harry Potter has brought a good number of high-level deliveries, many agree that the third film in the franchise is, without a doubt, the best of all. The arrival of Alfonso Cuaron It caused a turning point in the franchise, turning it into an adventure focused on teenagers and with much more adult themes.
In an interview with Total Film magazine, Cuarón has spoken at length about one of his best productions as a director. The Mexican filmmaker assures that, if his film was a change of direction for the saga, it is because it gave it a unique personality that it did not have until now, highlighting the exterior locations as one of his best assets.
“I can't do anything if I don't have the freedom to do what I do. I wanted to stretch things. Expand the universe. Feel that Hogwarts is situated in a geographical place, where you can have nature around your universe, and make your universe one with that nature. And create a geographical logic for Hogwarts. You know, the Great Hall is here, and then the stairs are next to the Great Hall, and if you take the stairs you go to the dormitories… If you go to the Tower of the Watch, the hospital is a hallway away, and you can see the courtyard, and from there you see the bridge… and below it is Hagrid's cabin, and the Whomping Willow on the other side, and then the forest…” .
Although the first two films had a unique aura, it is true that they were too continuous and hardly took risks in terms of the execution of the story. Instead, with the arrival of Cuarón, the universe began to expand more and more thanks to the enormous number of biomes we saw throughout the film, as well as the way the story of the third book was told.
After the release of this film, the saga changed its focus completely, and the directors who followed the Mexican continued bringing Hogwarts and its surroundings to life. Now it remains to be seen whether this very lively world will be reflected in the Max series, which will arrive in 2026 with a clear objective: to be the benchmark adolescent series for the next generation.
