Several weeks ago, we learned that the Lord of the Rings franchise will return to theaters with a new installment: The Hunt for Gollum. The film will star Sméagol, although, according to the possible synopsis of the film, it is likely that we will see old characters again, one of them being Aragorn.
From the American magazine GQ, they wanted to ask Viggo Mortensen if you would like to return to the saga playing Aragorn. The Danish-American actor made it clear that he loves the character, so he wouldn't mind returning one more time. Of course, if he returns, Andy Serkis will have to take the actor's age into account.
“Of course I would like to come back. I don't know exactly what the story is, I haven't found out. Maybe I will find out over time. I like playing that character. I learned a lot playing Aragorn. I enjoyed it a lot. I would only do it if it was right for it in terms of, you know, how old I am now and so on. I would only do it if it was right for the character. “It would be silly to do it any other way.”
It must be taken into account that the actor was 41 years old when he recorded the trilogy of Peter Jackson and, at that time, he was an adventurer capable of performing all kinds of feats. Now, Viggo is 65 years old, so the action scenes will have to be adapted to his age if Warner wants the future King of Gondor to return to the franchise.
The project is still in an early phase of development, so it's too early to know if any of the original cast from the early millennium trilogy will return to Middle-earth. The Hunt for Gollum will hit theaters around the world sometime in 2026.
