Is there any actor left who has not participated in some way or another in the Marvel and DC superhero universes? It seems not, but the truth is that Jon Hamm has not yet signed for any of the franchises. The legendary protagonist of Mad Men has been applying for a role for years and still hasn't gotten it.
The interpreter has spoken with The Hollywood Reporter about this issue and has made it clear that he is a true fan of the world of cartoons. “I talk to the guys who run Marvel and DC. And I'm a comic book nerd. So, we'll see,” says Hamm, who acknowledges that “there were a lot of conversations, and I'm still in those.”
The most striking thing of all is that he has had firm proposals to give life to some of the most recognizable faces of superheroes, but not all the proposals convinced him. “I definitely didn't want to do that one.“says Hamm about his possible signing as Green Lantern. A bullet that he knew how to dodge in time, since Ryan Reynolds' project is considered one of the worst that has ever been released in the genre.
It raised 227 million dollars compared to the 200 million budget it had and was battered by both critics and the public. With everything, Hamm has his own reference about how to live your acting career.
“I've applied for a couple of roles in the Marvel universe, I don't want to say exactly which ones, but it was a part of a comic that I really liked. I was like, 'Are you guys going to do this story?' And they would say, 'Yes, we're actually thinking about that.' I said, 'Okay. I should be the character.' So maybe it will work.
But I look at the career of a guy like Jeff Goldblum — and I know Jeff a little bit, we used to have the same therapist — and I think, 'God, how amazing to be able to do all the things he's done.' He had his leading man phase, he works with Marvel and he just shows up and steals the scene, then he does commercials and it's hilarious. I see him and he is happy. So, consciously or unconsciously, I am shaping my life to be like this: varied, happy and full.”
