In general, in the vast majority of Star Wars video games we are more than used to playing Jedis and Siths using their force powers and their laser swords to make their way. However, there are occasions when this rule is not followed and we have a good example with Star Wars Outlaws, the new installment of the saga that will arrive in a couple of months.
That's because The protagonist will be Kay Vess, who we have already seen will be an outlaw who will seek to make a living as she can, like the good thief that she is, in this plot that will take place between Episodes V and VI of the film saga. Therefore, you could say that she is not the typical heroine that is usually seen in many video games.
Taking this detail into account, when I had the opportunity to interview Julian Gerighty During the trip to the Summer Game Fest in Los Angeles, I wanted to know what made the team decide on a character like this, so this is what the creative director of this new game had to say about it. Star Warswho made me verify that I had very clear ideas:
I think the first thing is, when we had the opportunity to dive into a Star Wars video game, we started thinking about what we loved about Star Wars, what we connected to as kids watching Star Wars. And my hero wasn't the space guy. It wasn't the evil guys with the iconic black mask. It wasn't the rebel general who happens to be a princess. It was the cool kid with a dog, the two-legged dog who was riding around on a spaceship with freedom all around and they want to be outlaws. So that's what we wanted to do.
When we present a story about an outlaw, freedom in an open world, the fantasy game of being a scoundrel and being able to shoot, fight, talk, ride your speeder and pilot your ship in space and all those things made for something in so we don't need to talk about the Siths or the Jedis. We wanted to do something really different from what you can find in other games.
Clearly, from Gerighty's words, it is clear that he is a big fan of Han Solo and that his intention was always to create a character that resembled him. There won't be a Wookiee here to follow us during this space odyssey, although Kay Vess will. will have his own companion, as will be Nixa kind of pet that will correspond to a new species that has been created for this specific title.
Of course, apart from fulfilling a dream by designing a video game starring a character of these characteristics, he also admitted that it has been wonderful for him to be able to recreate Jabba the Hutt. These are just small fragments of a longer interview that we invite you to read in full when we publish it on Monday, July 1, which will be a good way to whet your appetite until Star Wars Outlaws arrive the August 30th to PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
