Now we can go to the movie theater to get a good dose of Furiosa, the new installment of the apocalyptic saga by George Miller. The Australian director has created a cult series over the decades, but the truth is that the beginnings were not easy at all. And the first Mad Max film in 1979 barely had a budget of $400,000.
The independent project did not have everything to succeed, but the truth is that it became a global success that catapulted both Miller and the legendary Mel Gibson to fame. Filming took place in 14 weeks instead of the scheduled 10 and some scenes had to be redone due to complications with the choreography. All of this without any type of permission that would authorize them to record the project.
So much so that the team avoided using radio to communicate, as transmissions could be intercepted by local police. The level of precariousness was such that Miller was forced to pay some extras with cans of beer, since the cash was very tight to the needs of the script. For example, a motorcycle gang called The Vigilantes were rewarded for their participation with alcohol, while a trucker who lent his vehicle was given $50 and a case of 24 beers.
Many members of Mad Max They accepted those absolutely extravagant conditions and the move turned out well for Miller. The production became the most profitable in film history for 20 years, but was finally surpassed in 1999 by The Blair Witch Project.
