Marvel Comics makes clear what the Mad Titan's true motivation is
Thanos has been a major villain of Marvel Comics for a long time, meaning fans might think they know him pretty well, especially after most of his legacy was explained in The Infinity Gauntlet. Also, what fans think they know best about one of Marvel's greatest villains was his motivation, the reason that drives him to do such heinous things across the cosmos. However, Marvel There seems to be corrected that misconception about Thanos.
Marvel Comics makes clear what the Mad Titan's true motivation is
In a preview of Avengers Annual 2024 #1, Thanos is planning his next move, while searching for all the current Guardians who have gained the powers of the Infinity Gems. This comic is the final chapter of the most recent crossover event Marvel Comics which has been titled as Infinity Watch.
In it, the Infinity Gems have selected different mortal hosts to bond with, imbuing them with their respective cosmic powers. Now, the Mad Titan wants to take advantage of the situation for his own benefit.
Before this event began, Thanos stole the essence of Mistress Death and used it to create a new one Infinity Gem which was called the Gem of Death. However, the own Gem of Death rejected him when he tried to join her. That didn't stop the Mad Titan will turn away from his goal, as he hopes to succeed after he can first collect the other six Infinity Gems.
Thanos makes it clear that the reason he is on this crusade is not because of his love for the Deathnor is it motivated by hatred or anger as was once thought. This comic would prove that Thanos does what it does for one thing only: a deep sense of duty.
Although at first it was believed that everything that Thanos he did was to court the Deathhe felt like a much less despicable villain that he found himself in a kind of twisted romantic sense.
Still, cosmic carnage seemed to be part of the character's nature, as the two were simply playing a game of romance on a level that mortals couldn't comprehend. However, this issue makes it clear that Thanos conquest because he believes he is smarter and more worthy of power than anyone else, as well as feel compelled to prove it to the universe.
For this reason, it would be duty, and not love, the real engine that drives Thanos in it Marvel Universe. While that's definitely a change many didn't see coming, it's something that's been hinted at throughout the history of Marvel Comics. Now, fans simply have the official confirmation, as Marvel has finally corrected The Biggest Misconception About Thanos.
