Since its launch on PlayStation 4 during the month of April 2020, many of us have been wondering when we could see Final Fantasy VII Remake on Xbox, especially after confirming that it is a temporary exclusive for the Sony console. However, and with the passage of time, the remake of one of the most emblematic games in the industry is still not available on the Microsoft platform, and it seems that now we definitely know why.
In a new response from Microsoft to the CMA, those from Redmond have assured that Final Fantasy VII Remake won’t be coming to Xbox because PlayStation signed a exclusion contract with some publishers, as in this case it has happened with Square Enix with the aforementioned title, but also with some others.
Microsoft assures that Final Fantasy VII Remake will not come to Xbox because PlayStation signed an exclusion contract
According to the arguments put forward by Microsoft, it seems that Sony would not only have been paying to achieve temporary exclusives, but would also have reached certain agreements so that some titles never reach Xbox consoles. Below you can see the full extract of the arguments of Redmond.
In addition to having exclusive content, Sony has also entered into agreements with third-party publishers that require Xbox to be “excluded” from the set of platforms on which these publishers can distribute their games. Some prominent examples of these deals are Final Fantasy VII Remake (Square Enix), Bloodborne (From Software), the upcoming Final Fantasy XVI (Square Enix) and the recently announced Silent Hill 2 remaster (Bloober team).
While it is true that titles such as Bloodborne are mentioned, which is really an exclusive PlayStation IP, if we can see examples of what Microsoft is talking about, especially when it comes to temporary exclusivessince it is already more than confirmed that Silent Hill 2 Remake will hit the market a year later on Xbox, or Final Fantasy XVI, which is expected to arrive 6 months later.
