This same week, Microsoft had a very important meeting regarding the future of Activision Blizzard. After it, the company confirmed large agreements such as the one reached with Nvidia to bring Xbox games to GeForce Now, but it was not the only thing that was revealed. One of the most important data that those of Redmond offered had the players as protagonists, specifically active Xbox users in the European Union.
Now, Microsoft has shared this data through its official website, revealing the exact number of active Xbox users in the EU based on data obtained by the Xbox Store, based on the last 6 months since last January 31. Although we were aware that Xbox’s data against its main rivals was low in comparison, the reality is that the data is surprisingly low.
This is the data of active Xbox users in the European Union
According to the table offered by the company itself, there are currently only 4 million active Xbox users in the European Union, based on data from the Xbox Store for console. The data is even lower compared to the PC Games Store (something that is less surprising, since all the company’s games are on Steam), but it rises very significantly in terms of users who use the PC App Store, specifically up to the 33 million.
On the other hand, the data of active users that is on the official Xbox website related to the store is also shared, being somewhat higher than what we can see on consoles; while the website related to general Microsoft applications remains at only 4 million.
Solution in sight? Microsoft and Sony would be talking to unlock the purchase of Activision Blizzard
we are xbox.com
There is no doubt that these are surprising data, since the Xbox player base should be quite a bit broader than what these data show. The reason must be found in how they have been counted, and that is that only those users who have ever entered the Xbox Store should add up. Those of us who enter to play directly would not be counted, so the result is somewhat misleading.
What is worth noting is that this is only the data relating to active Xbox users in the European Union, including one of the great strongholds of Xbox in Europe, such as the United Kingdom. Also, within the 27 EU countries, Xbox is not available in countries like Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Romania or Slovenia, so the data refer to only 18 countriess.
