The soap opera of the generation continues its course.
At this point in the film, many will already know that Microsoft’s purchase of Activision Blizzard is the soap opera of the generationbeing so that the process is having several ups and downs, since although many thought that the agreement could have gone to waste after the rejection of the regulatory body of the United Kingdom, the truth is that during these weeks we have been able to see that the European Union and China have given the go-ahead to this transaction, thus achieving that the purchase could be completed with one condition.
However, being a mystery what will happen in the future, it must be said that Microsoft has the UK CMA as its main opponent, before which he has even gone so far as to appeal the decision. However, this goes much further, since the content of said appeal has been made public, which gives rise to Microsoft having described the decision made by the CMA as a series of fundamental errors when evaluating your position in the cloud gaming industry.
Microsoft has appealed the CMA’s decision
Given this, in the appeal Microsoft affirms that the CMA did not adequately consider the limitations of native games regarding cloud gaming, so that these two markets should not be seen separately, since the user has the possibility of switching between one and the other freely. They also claim that the CMA has not taken into account the ten-year agreements that have been signed with other companies for the Microsoft cloud service to reach other platforms, as well as Activision Blizzard titles.
It should be noted that these same agreements were the ones that gave weight so that the European Union approved the purchase, so now it seems to be the best base. In any case, at Microsoft they have requested that the decision of the CMA be annulled in its entirety at the same time that this body pays the costs associated with the appeal.
For the rest, it will be necessary to see how this matter ends, since even the British government has criticized the decision of the CMA. Likewise, as of today, 37 countries have approved the purchase, being United Kingdom and the United States the only ones against.
