The film directed by Lee Daniels (The Butler) presents the story of the Jackson family, composed of Ebony (Andra Day), a single mother of three children: Andre (Anthony B. Jenkins), Nate (Caleb McLaughlin) and Shante (Demi Singleton). They all suffer from paranormal phenomena and the effects of demonic possession that puts their lives and those of others at risk, making it even more terrifying to know the events on which they are based.
The story behind the Netflix horror film is based on a true story that occurred in 2011 in Gary, Indiana. The Ammons family, consisting of Latoya, her mother Rosa Campbell, and their three children, began experiencing paranormal phenomena after moving into a new home. These events included the appearance of flies, footsteps in the basement, dark figures and drastic changes in the children's behaviorwho even levitated and spoke in strange voices. These events led to the house becoming known as the “Indiana Demon House.”
Seeking help, the family contacted churches and doctors, who documented unexplained behaviors, such as a boy walking along a wall. The authorities and social services intervened, temporarily removing the children. It all ended when A priest performed exorcisms which finally brought peace to the family.
