I'm going to start with a comment that may be controversial to more than one person:
“Paper Mario is a better RPG than Super Mario RPG”
In my humble opinion, both are good introductory tools for the little ones to the world of role-playing video games, but only Paper Mario He does it in such a dynamic way that it becomes entertaining for adults too.
Back in 2004, the first version of The Thousand-Year Door (TTYD) made his appearance for the dearest Nintendo GameCubebeing the continuation after the great debut in Nintendo 64 in the year 2000.

After 20 years, our 2D Mario returns fresh with a remake this past May 23.
The endless story
The story is the same, I'm not going to go around too much; Peach is kidnapped from the Mushroom Kingdom for the eighteenth time, but this time not by Bowser, but by an organization called Mega
Obviously, in this situation, the only one specially designed to deal with these situations is our beloved plumber, who embarks on an adventure to get all the star fragments and save the princess… again.

TTYD It doesn't come with too substantial a change to the story's central narrative, save for some dialogue and language tweaks.
As for the gameplay, it is known that we are talking about a classic RPG from start to finish. Throughout the adventure Mario will add friends to the party and each one with different unique abilities.
“Paper Mario is a better RPG than Super Mario RPG”, there is no point of comparison beyond the fact that the first is the norm among fans of the big N.
The difference with his 2000 debut is that this time the battles occur on the stage of a theater, with an audience and scenery. It could be considered that these two additions to the combats are purely for aesthetic reasons, but they are part of the same battle dynamic; The characters will be able to interact with the audience at all times to be able to get stars and thus be able to use special abilities. As for the scenery, sometimes parts of the stage can fall to hurt enemies or even Mario. The rest of the mechanics remain as entertaining as ever; In combat there will only be room for Mario and a companion, but with the possibility of exchanging them at any time as many times as necessary.

As expected and being the flagship of all Paper Mario, each combat skill will have a specific execution in terms of buttons; Timing and combos are key and will be significantly different between each character in the party.
Last but not least, the issue of badges is of course still valid. Badges are used to improve stats or add new skills to each of the characters, but we can only use a limited number of them and each one will use a certain amount of skill points.
Throughout the adventure we will see that not everything remained the same as the original version, there will be changes in some dialogues and some new bosses were added.
The icing on the cake
If we stop specifically at the visual aspect of the delivery, which is what first stands out in this new edition, we see a Paper Mario Much cleaner, which is to be expected. We observe geometric figures that are far from the polygonal of their origin, much more striking, contrasting colors and with a rich color palette. Several scenarios even have a greater number of animations and interactions, which makes us see them with a greater sense of depth.

Anyway, it is musically where I see the most evolution. The entire soundtrack was recreated from scratch, resulting in a much fresher version. Likewise, if you are one of those who want to experience a glimpse of the NGC era, we will be able to get a badge relatively soon in the game that will make the entire current soundtrack go to the original.
In general terms Paper Mario TTYD It works wonderfully, nothing that is not Nintendo's standard with its mainstay deliveries. The most notable difference is that in this version the FPS are set at 30, not like in the original version, which was 60. The reality is that this decision does not affect the experience, but it does make you think about what the reason for it was. this change. It is true that at the time the Nintendo Gamecube used to demonstrate its power when and as much as it could, so it may be that today the decision of the FPS has been left behind to an artistic question with the video game itself, betting on graphical improvement and sacrificing fluency.
