Irony is in the air.
The news of the video game is monopolizing (forgive the redundancy), due to the acquisition of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft. Currently, we receive more and more news about economic issues, something that has nothing to do with the sales of companies, something that we have always known, but due to the cross accusations between Sony and Microsoft, which are framed in the context of this million-dollar acquisition. We still don’t know how this is going to end, firstly because we are not psychic, and secondly because you never know what a judge’s decision might be, but the reality is that now we have learned that irony is bad enough friend.
You may wonder why we say this, and it is that now we have learned that Sony PlayStation is also going to be investigated by the antitrust authorities, although we can anticipate this since this does not have to do with any purchase, but rather with a decision that can be considered as “anti-consumer”. Coming up next, we tell you:
The sale of third-party digital games takes them to court
Many of you will probably remember how, a few years ago, PlayStation prohibited the sale of digital keys for its games in stores that are basically dedicated to this type of business. This led to a lot of controversy, since until then it was allowed, which is why a group of players decided to denounce the company.
In the first instance, this case came to nothing, mainly because the judge did not see, in the reports they made to the plaintiffs, that this change in PlayStation policies have benefited them economically. Now, and after the correction of the errors in this document, it seems that the case will go ahead, since the judge seems to see signs of an antitrust practice, since it would be a way of eliminating competition in this regard.
For now, and although this case is not as high-profile, nor is it going to have such shocking consequences as the aforementioned acquisition, we can wait impatiently to see what happens with PlayStation, a company that has given us some of the best video games of history.
