Resident Evil 4 Remake launched its demo for all platforms and after playing it we will give you all the details and what you will find. Read more below!
The demo of Resident Evil 4 Remake it is finally among us so that we can see what is new and interesting about it. This version of the long-awaited game is available on all platforms, that is, PS4, PS5, PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series X | S, and it is free. The game of Capcom It will launch on March 24, but if anxiety kills you, you already have something to play here.
in the demo of RE4 Remake You’re going to play the opening sequence of the original game, but here it happens a little differently. In this version of the story, Lion starts on the outskirts of town – there’s no mention of the accident or explanation of how it got there, which we’re guessing is being saved for the full game. Thus, with more suspense than anything else, you will have to go through a completely new area that acts as a tutorial, explore a little, and find a policeman who was investigating the same as us. However, after a couple of events, you quickly escape from this house and reach the town in question.
Here’s the iconic opening sequence of the game, with the villagers going berserk as soon as they see you and start attacking, and then the chainsaw maniac. This sequence is incredibly iconic and the town is recreated almost one for one from the original game. So, gun and knife in hand, you’re going to have to figure out how to survive the constant wave of enemies as you run side by side because there’s, well, a guy with a chainsaw who won’t die on anything. The sequence is tense, bizarre, adrenaline-pumping, and just as brilliant as when we played it on the Gamecube or PS2 for the first time.
what stays the same
As we told you above, the most iconic sequences are still there. Playing in the village and escaping feels very, very similar to the classic game. But, most importantly, it’s not really pitch altered. Like an 80s movie action hero, Leon has his iconic lines (“Where did everyone go? To play bingo?“) and even adds some new ones that give color. The personality is vibrant, bizarre, and perfectly captures the humor of the original.
what changed
The level of graphical fidelity is spectacular, and the best version of what the RE Engine has us used to. The lights and shadows allow moments of silence and tension to be much more atmospheric and we can move in the dark feeling as if something is constantly stalking us, which is exactly the feeling you should have.
This is particularly marked in the first area, completely new, where we have to explore a small house in search of our partner and in a controlled environment they allow us to learn to control the gun, the knife and so on. But, when you play you will notice some changes. For example, now the knife is “blunt” and is not a permanent weapon, which makes it another resource to handle, especially for those who liked to use it to attack enemies on the ground. At the same time, the melee hit system is much more refined and allows you to do new things.
In this version, some enemies can be glory killed style Doom of 2016 by approaching and executing them with the knife, or you can also kill them on the ground by cutting their throats. Thus, the classic strategy of giving them a shot in the knee, then a kick and finishing them on the ground with the knife still works, but instead of giving 5, 6 stabs now it is enough with one.
On the other hand, the enemies are also more intelligent and will try to surround you and grab you from behind to make you let go. Since you can now shoot while moving like in any modern shooter, this component makes everything more dynamic.
Also, as always, for the players who handle the controller the best, you’re going to be able to do “parries” with your knife and stop the throwing axes, the blows melee and even the chainsaw with a slightly more generous window than in the original that rewards experts with adrenaline-pumping sequences.
The things they removed
Specifically, there are two things that are not there that are striking. The first one is told at the beginning – in the introduction we don’t see Leon arriving in the town in the car, but this may be in the full game. Anyway, everything is a little different. Second, France. Third and most interesting, that remembered first sequence with the dog in a trap that you can help is nowhere to be found. On the one hand, it may be a matter of not showing animal cruelty or on the other, that the new vision tries to be more dynamic and prefers to leave this aside by delaying the player and presenting the area of the house to learn how to interact with the environment.
In conclusion
We were ready to say that Resident Evil 4 Remake it was totally unnecessary to bring a new version of a game that is already available on current platforms and still plays like gods. However, this new version changes enough that it’s more than just new graphics and gameplay options that make it feel like a new experience. The best thing about this version is that, just as RE2 Remake and RE3 Remake did, it is not about “recreating” the game as it was, but about remixing, reinventing, and complementing it to add something new. This demo has to leave you the hype through the roof.
