The announcement four days ago saddened Prince of Persia fans who are looking forward to remake of The Sands of Time. The postponement to 2026 was a big shock, which was not softened by the non-verbal teaser trailer with a burning candle. Ubisoft is now correcting this and publishing an interview with developers from Ubisoft Montreal. They shared their vision.
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake from this team's workshop will be modern remake, which will be quite different in some respects. At the very beginning, the developers determined what they wanted to keep, what they wanted to modify a little, and what they wanted to completely redo. In all three cases, they remember the respect that is part of the pillar built on these four foundations.
Bio Jade creative director Adam Granger revealed that some elements will remain the same. It is for example wall running. They consider it so iconic that it would be a shame to try to change it. Instead, they want to make him as similar as possible. It's up to him anyway dagger. Then there are the basic elements that respect and advance. Namely the time abilities, the tone of the game, and the gravity gameplay. They also modernize the level design and they increase the scale of the world. They want players to be impressed with the castle. They also change the challenges a bit.
Head of development Michael McIntyre dedicated himself to the fight. The latter is undergoing major changes, as it would seem outdated to current players. Even here, however, there are moments that will remain in the remake. It is for example stabbing a lying enemy, to suck the sand out of it with a dagger. The same goes for the signature attacks and rolls from the original.
“I think skill they are a good example of this. The original fights would be pretty dated for many players today. Combat in games like Prince of Persia has evolved a lot in the 21 years since its release, and some recent games like Dark Souls and God of War have really elevated the combat even for casual players. This is an area where modern style needs to be thought of.” stated McIntyre.
In the next part of the interview, McIntyre addressed the story. They will be tell the same love story, which they consider beautiful. Even here, however, there are many nuances in how they can serve the story to make it a great experience for players. The biggest story change is Farrah, which gets more space. But it doesn't mean it will be playable. Instead, there will be more interactions between Farah and the prince to learn more about their relationship. “They will simply spend more time together,” he explained.
Bio Jade Creative Director Adam Granger added another part to it. In the remake, they try to modernize her portrayal and make her into a great character by it will have more depth and plot. Lots of new Farah related content will be optional.
So hopefully the work will be successful and the prince will return in all his glory. It didn't work out for the developers from the Indian branches, the remake was taken away from them. Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake will not be released until 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
