After almost three years surviving with a laptop that asks for an extension, I have finally decided to buy my own gaming pc. I’ve gone for a store-bought absolute bug, but it would never have occurred to me to pick up a discarded computer and try to bring it back to life.
That is what the Reddit user LivingHerNow has proposed, as our colleagues from 3DJuegos collect. The equipment that was ordered has a processor AMD Ryzen 9 3900Xa motherboard MSI MPG Gaming Plus X570a GPU MSI RX580 4GB beside 16GB RAM. An interesting base on which to start working, although the experiment went to waste.
I put everything together tonight and booted into the BIOS. I ran Ubuntu for a bit, though then it crashed. The GPU has no dry paste, thermal pads are missing, and the CPU had no thermal paste. I have ordered a cheap SSD and replacement pads/paste. I intend to get new thermal compounds throughout, and I hope to be back with good news.
The only component he has been forced to purchase is a power supply for the system, although the most serious problem is the lack of heat-conducting paste, which has caused the board to warp. Most striking of all is that LivingHerNow has no real need to get its hands dirty with this job.
“I would love to be able to build this and sell it cheap or give it away to a good cause etc as I have a great PC and this is just a fun find,” he explains in a comment. The last image we have offers us some hope that the cleanup and start-up will end up being effective before long.
