The writer's books continue to be chosen to reach cinema and television
Today, Stephen King has more than earned the title of master of horror and contemporary narrative after having written works full of deeply developed characters, with great hits like The Shining or Itwhich not only explores fear and the macabre, but also the complexities of the human mind, the power of imagination and the dark corners of the soul thanks to its deep characters.
Although King has a favorite horror film, he continues to work on adaptations of his works either in series or film format. Without going further, MGM+ is developing a series based on The Institutethe novel by Stephen King that arrived in Spain as The Institute. The long-in-development project will be adapted by executive producer and director Jack Bender (Lost, FROM) and executive producer and screenwriter Benjamin Cavell (Justified, The Stand) as an eight episode series.
The series will feature Ben Barnes (Shadow and Bone, Westworld, The Punisher) and Mary-Louise Parker (Weeds, Mr. Mercedes) as protagonists, filming in Nova Scotia later this year. MGM, whose productions can be seen through Prime Video, has already adapted other titles by the writer such as Jerusalem's Lot, which became the series Chapelwaite. He also brought several of King's works to film, such as 1408 and The Fog.
This is the story of The Institute
Stephen King's new series will follow Luke Ellis, a 12-year-old boy genius who is kidnapped and taken to the Institute, a facility with children who possess unusual abilities. In a nearby town, ex-cop Tim Jamieson (Barnes) looks to start over, but his fate becomes intertwined with Luke's. Mary-Louise Parker will play the Institute's director, the determined Mrs. Sigsby.
Stephen King, excited about the adaptation, has assured that the combination of Bender and Cavell will guarantee a great result, as stated in Comicbook. For his part, Bender is excited to adapt another King work and continue his collaboration with MGM +. Recently, Amazon Prime Video released the sequel to one of its best horror series.
