The creator of No More Heroes seems to have learned well from the anarchy of Devolver Digital’s events.
SUDA51, founder and CEO of Grasshopper Manufacture, is one of the most prominent figures in the video game industry in Japan, not only for being the responsible for games like Killer 7 or No More Heroes, also for making fun of everything and everyone. That sense of humor is what he tries to capture in his games and everything he does, like the Grasshopper Directan event in which he has taken the opportunity to make fun of this type of video game event, as well as to announce your new gamein the most SUDA51 way you can imagine.
After collaborating so much with Devolver Digital on their marketing campaigns, it seems that the Japanese creative wanted to bring that same energy back to Japan, and this first Grasshopper Direct is a parody event of video game events. Recorded falsely direct as in a back room, with a fake presenter and a cosplayer who seems to be there out of obligation, the broadcast is constantly “interrupted” with advertisements and fake movie trailers. All on purpose obviously.

Of course there are real ads, like that Shadows of the Damned remastering that will reach all platforms today, “probably”, and different fairs and activities in which the Grasshopper team participates in Japan. Although the big announcement of this show is the presentation of the new game of SUDA 51. Near the end of the event, the presenters hear some noise on the other side of the wall and go to investigate what it is. Opening the bedroom door, he sees SUDA51 on a sofa playing something who suddenly pauses and just goes with the flow like he’s really got it.
“Sorry, are you seriously recording?”, says the creative. When asked to say a few words for the 25th Anniversary of Grasshopper Manufacture, jokes again with his new project. “This is good?, our new one is right here on the screen“. “Well, it doesn’t matter, screw it. Grasshopper is already 25 years old, only 75 years old to reach 100. We will continue making games, thank you “, he concludes to end the event, when seeing a funny fake of this moment.
As for the game itself, little can be made out on the screen. At first it looks like a forest at night, with treesand once SUDA51 pauses the game an inventory menu appears, with health meters, blood, and something called Emerald Flowsion. It can also be distinguished what appears to be the name of two weapons: Spazer and Brynhildr. Although at the moment there is no idea what this game can be about, the protagonist appears pixelated completely behind the Japanese creative.
We will see what surprise SUDA51 has prepared for us after the bittersweet taste of No More Heroes 3, which is now available on all platforms after its release on Nintendo Switch.
