With a month to go before the season finale of The Bad Batch we had the opportunity to interview its supervising director, Brad Rau. We tell you what he revealed to us in this note!
One of the franchise’s best-known animated series Star Warsin addition to Clone Warsis The Bad Batchwhich is currently premiering episodes of its second season on DisneyPlus. In geek culture we had the opportunity to speak with one of the most important people in the project: Brad Rau, its supervising director. With only a month to go before the end of the season, rau revealed to us some details about how it was to put together this sequel that many fans have been waiting for since 2016.
So that you know a little more rauother of his works within the universe of Star Wars include Clone Warsa series that captivated fans of the franchise and came to an end in 2020 after seven seasons. And the episodes that are already available from The Bad Batch in disneyplus show us that many of the people involved in the project, including Rau, I work in Clone Wars. “Yes, the style of the second season of Bad Batchevokes Clone Warswhere we have a brushed texture on many of the surfaces”the director began to explain when we asked him about the similarities.
“The way we shoot these episodes is really similar to live action, sensitive to the type of lens we use, the type of camera, the movement we use. This is something that we are bringing from Clone Wars and they could see it in the first season of Bad Batch. And in the second season we want to push the loyalty a little more of all these aspects ”. Something interesting about the project is that it began as an episodic series, that is, it was not necessary to see all the chapters to understand the story. However, this changed with the second season, as we have a bit more of a linear story.
“Our protagonists just want to make their way through this galaxy in these dark times. But some of the decisions they make end up bringing them closer to the fire. And when we do that, the story really needs to be more serialized.”commented rau about the decision to make this big change. “So we started off a bit episodic and became more serialized… We see all the way through the same story, from beginning to end, and how it affects our characters along the way, but it has to become more serialized to achieve that.”.

One of the great advantages of series like The Bad Batch is that we know characters that are part of the canon of Star Wars but that they did not have a leading role in the movies or that they did not even appear. And you probably already have your favorite, but we took advantage of the situation to ask rau which character do you prefer? “I’m going to cheat, because I have two favorite characters. One is OmegaI love to see how it is, how it grows in the season, how it learns from things and the way it michelle ang interprets it”.
And the one he cheated with was Phee Genoa, a new character we met in this season. “It’s very funny, to see how he reacts Omega before her to enjoy how she interacts with the rest of the team,” he explained. rau. Finally, when we asked him what to expect from the rest of the series, the director told us that, without spoil a lot, “there are some episodes that we think fans will really love”. “It’s fun right now to incorporate different parts of the tradition of Star Wars in the story, which we think is really satisfying by the time you get to the season finale.”

The Bad Batch is now available in disneyplus. You can enjoy its first complete season and the first 11 chapters of the second. We have five episodes left that arrive every Wednesday on the screen of disneyplus and we will be able to enjoy the end March 29.
