The CMA wants to bet to benefit the people, industry and global economy. Does it bode well for Microsoft and Activision Blizzard?

The news keeps coming, and Microsoft and Activision Blizzard continue to be in the spotlight, this time regarding the latest developments with the CMA. According to official reports, we can see that the CMA wants to bet on benefiting the people, industry and global economy, or at least that is what they propose.

That is why this would be the opportunity, the perfect window that Microsoft needs for the Activision Blizzard purchase agreement. is considered suitable for the rest of competentor at least for the organizations that are regulating the case and on which the future of this purchase depends.

Microsoft and Activision Blizzard could adapt their situation after the latest official statements from the CMA

Currently the CMA is often perceived as supervisory authority in several markets, especially the United Kingdomand on the subject of Microsoft and Activision Blizzard has been quite hot in recent months, partly because they did not give in and get involved politically in issues that were beyond their powers and spheres in the first instance.

In any case, after official reports, it is hoped that from 2023, the CMA will focus on serving people, for the benefit of the economy in general and companies. Offering more certainty than insecurityjust the opposite of what we had seen so far.

Some points to deal with improve CMA would:

  • Certainty regarding internal processes of the CMA
  • Predictability about the approach taken in justice and law and the types of global competition agreements both current and future. (Like the current case of Microsoft and Activision)
  • In addition, search for commitment to objective assessment and on a case-by-case basis, which is based on evidence and rests on the foundations of independent decision-making, something quite relevant in matters of market competition in which the individual interests of each participating actor prevail.

With these and other decisions to improve, it is expected by the CMA that large companies have the necessary instruments and certainty to find out about antitrust laws that encourage competition that in theory tries to be as healthy and fair as possible for everyone.

Xbox Game Pass and GeForce Now similar services

The CMA considers Xbox Game Pass and GeForce Now to be similar services, with no competition concerns

Obviously these measures have to be incorporated over the months to avoid problems like the ones we have been seeing with Microsoft and Activision Blizzard. We must not forget that the CMA is primarily the market authority for the UK, and therefore It is a fairly important market in digital and technological skillswith a strong national and international authority, so these novelties are the order of the day.
