After having offered two terrifying projects as interesting as Lights Out and Annabelle: Creation, David F. Sandberg he decided to take a radical leap in his career. From giving scares on movie screens to offering pure spectacle with superheroes, specifically one of the most famous in all of DC.
The director has worked with Zachary Levy to recently bring Shazam! The Fury of the Gods, which hit a tremendous bump in the rooms. 30.5 million dollars collected during its first weekend in the United States, which is 43% less than the previous film.
It is going to have to improve and a lot the adaptation of the character to recoup the cost invested by Warner Bros. and DC Comics. 110 million dollars to shoot all the scenes and another 100 million in advertising that set the economic bar very high. What is already certain is that Sandberg has decided to disassociate himself from the field of superheroes, as he has explained on his Twitter account.
On Rotten Tomatoes I just got my lowest critic score and my highest audience score on the same film 🤷♂️ I wasn’t expecting a repeat of the first movie critically but I was still a little surprised because I think it’s a good film. Oh well.

On Rotten Tomatoes I just got my lowest score from critics and my highest score from audiences for the same movie. I didn’t expect the review of the first movie to be repeated, but it still surprised me a bit because I think it’s a good movie. Anyway. As I have been saying for a long time, I really want to return to horror (in addition to trying new things). After six years of Shazam I’m definitely done with superheroes for now.
To be clear, I don’t regret for a second making the Shazam movies. I have learned a lot and have worked with amazing people. I will always be grateful for directing two of them. They have been very challenging, but valuable experiences. What I most want is to disconnect from the discourse on superheroes on the Internet. Too much of it stresses me out a lot and it will be nice not to have to think about it anymore.
As we see, Sandberg wants to return to what seems to be his usual terrain, horror in the cinema. He claims to be very proud of the two Shazam movies he’s directed, but is surprised that there isn’t a consensus on the assessment of the recent sequel. Of course, he wanted to emphasize that the persistent discussions on the Internet about the world of superheroes have saturated him too much and he wants to distance himself from that section of the community.
