The European Commission extends the deadline for the final decision of Activision Blizzard and Microsoft and points to the opening of negotiations

The date for the final decision of the European Commissionfor him agreement to purchase Activision Blizzard by Microsoftt, it has spread. Which for many is an important step, because it would mean that the Commission has begun to negotiate the necessary concessions to approve the agreement. Barely a week ago, important hearings took place before Brussels, at which the most prominent participants in this entire process appeared. As a consequence, Microsoft formalized the agreement to bring Call of Duty to Nintendo for 10 years and Activision games and Xbox Game Pass PC to Nvidia Geforce Now, Nvidia’s streaming service, throwing to the ground the biggest concerns of the operators of the competition.

As a consequence, it is more than likely that competition regulators must take into account these latest movements to base their final decisions, whether they are in favor or against. Whether for this reason or because of the start of negotiations, the truth is that the European Commission has extended the deadline to offer a final decision, extending it to April 25, 2023.

The European Commission extends the deadline for the final decision of Activision Blizzard and Microsoft and points to the opening of negotiations:

The news comes shortly after the statements offered by Margrethe Vestage, a member of the European Commission and European Commissioner for Competition. As echoed BloombergVestage offered some very interesting statements about this process, where he stressed that, to make the final decision, he will not be influenced by passions, but by facts:

The solutions offered by Microsoft would be enough for the CMA and the European Commission to accept the agreement

“We have had some cases where we have looked at the innovative potential, the innovative rush of a particular market. And that is, of course, what I will take into account. I try to look at it all together, because we shouldn’t get carried away by either side of the debate regarding the effects of the takeover,” says Competition Commissioner Margrethe Vestage.

In view of the foregoing, it seems clear that the European Commission will take into consideration all the allegations, documents and facts to make its decision; including, most likely, provisional decisions and hearings held by their international counterparts. Therefore, it is logical that the date for adopting a decision It has been extended and it would not be unusual for a new extension to take place as the weeks progressed.
