In just a month we will have with us the return of Silent Hill 2, which will arrive in a remake by Bloober Team, thus fulfilling more than 12 years since the last main installment of the Konami horror franchise. Despite having been able to see Silent Hill: Acension and Silent Hill: The Short Message recently, the truth is that The last main game in the series was Silent Hill: DownpourAnd now we know it could have been very different.
As it has been possible to know thanks to @AestheticGamer1also known as Dusk Golem, Konami was working on features that would ultimately not see the light of day in the final version of Silent Hill Downpour. Specifically, it seems that the company was working on include cooperative multiplayer and other unique featuresalthough they were eventually removed in the version of the game that hit stores in March 2012.
Silent Hill Downpour had cooperative multiplayer in a preview version
Konami has apparently been working on multiplayer features within Silent Hill Downpour, as has been revealed after several dataminers explored the game's code. According to this information, it seems that Konami decided to remove these features to move them to Silent Hill: Book of Memoriesa game that was also released in 2012.
But this is not the only thing that has been discovered. Apparently, Konami's intention was to make Anne a playable character in Silent Hill Downpour. And if that weren't enough, it has also been discovered that other features were worked on that ultimately never saw the light of day, such as a clock that acted as an enemy detector, as well as a stealth mechanic and a fear meter, which would affect the protagonist's psychological profile.
However, neither this nor the various enemy designs that have also been found made it into the final version. In fact, most of these things were removed in the early stages of the game's development, but there's no doubt that it would have been interesting to have been able to enjoy some of them.
