There are relaxing games and others that appeal to the visceral nature of each player and make it flow. The Mortal Kombat saga belongs to this second group and that makes things get out of hand sooner or later: the professional player Dyloch paid (gladly) the astronomical amount $2,992 right after winning the Toreo CEO 2024. To put it in perspective, the first prize was $565. What happened?
CEO 2024 is a fighting game championship. It was held between June 28 and 30 in Daytona and, logically, Mortal Kombat 1 was on the schedule. Between the two days, a show that was not planned by the organization: just after qualifying for the grand final, Dyloch got up, carried away by the moment and, as a celebration, threw his chair off the stage. A moment of glory? Quite the opposite.
“Dylock earns his way into the Grand Finals. 3 wins against Rewind in Mortal Kombat 1 during CEO 2024. By the way, Dyloch, please do us a favor and keep the chairs in the ring. Thanks.”
As shown in the competition tweet, the chair thrown by Dyloch hit a set of lights that was completely uselessAs one of the event organizers later showed, the item was valued at almost $3,000. So he formally asked the player (albeit via his social media) to take responsibility for the damage.
Who breaks it pays
Dyloch's response soon appeared, assuring that he would pay for the damages and, already, he showed off his championship belt with General Shao, the character he used during the championship. We are not clear if by then he knew that those lights cost five times what he would receive as first prize.
Your General Micky is the CEO champion!! I take responsibility for those lights by the way. That being said, I don't care about the General [Shao] has gotten worse in the latest patch of the game, Get out of my way!!
Fighting game tournaments are loved because they are capable of leaving players and spectators with great moments filled with emotion that explode in a matter of seconds. Dyloch's triumph left us with one that will be worth remembering, and not precisely because of his dominance of Mortal Kombat 1, but for what does not have to be done. A great example of how not to celebrate a victory. In a way, it's kind of poetic: outbursts when playing these kinds of games always cost you. Sometimes during the game and other times in the most literal sense.
