He doesn’t have long left until this deal is finalized.
The announcement of the purchase of Activision Blizzard, by Microsoft, managed, during the past year 2022, to shake the world. We all expected that Xbox would announce some more purchase, after what Bethesda (the company responsible for some of the best RPGs in history) meant, but the truth is that no one could have predicted that the chosen one would be the company responsible for Call of Dutya franchise recognized for having provided us with some of the best shooters in the sector.
This announcement led to a lot of speculation within the industry, especially from PlayStation, a company that currently has a marketing agreement with this company, to promote Call of Duty precisely. The company, at the time of the announcement, feared for the future of this franchise on its platforms, precisely because this agreement does not have much time left.
An agreement that will end shortly
As it has been learned, the marketing agreement between Activision Blizzard and PlayStation would end during the next year 2024, so we cannot say that he has much time left. This, in addition, explains a little more the fact that Sony is so restless due to this purchase, although as explained by the president of Microsoft, they should not be.
This refers to the fact that, although the exclusive marketing agreement ends in a year, Xbox has proposed to them to sign a contract, similar to the one they signed with Nintendo, in which they agree to bringing Call of Duty to PlayStation consoles for the next 10 years. This would be a legally binding contract, so Microsoft would be obliged to comply with it once signed, in addition to having to respect certain conditions, such as the fact that it should arrive in the same conditions on all platforms, and do so on the same dates.
Of course, we don’t expect that, after all the fuss, PlayStation will now accept the contract that Microsoft is offering, but it really doesn’t sound like a bad offer, especially for gamers. Furthermore, as has happened with Minecraft, we can expect that after those 10 years Let’s keep getting Call of Duty games on platforms other than Xbox.
