And it's what we all assumed
The lineup we saw at Summer Game Fest 2024 was heavily leaked, but perhaps the greatest exponent of this is LEGO Horizon Adventures, a title of which we have been hearing rumors and leaks for months, although many of us did not quite believe it. Even so, its announcement was not without surprises, and although we knew, thanks to leaks, that it would arrive on PC at launch, it was revealed to us that It would also be released directly on Nintendo Switch. Now we have been able to learn the reasons that led the studio and PlayStation to make the decision to launch this title on Nintendo's hybrid console.
In statements offered to Video Games Chronicles, James Windeler, narrative director at Guerrilla Games, we know this answer. “It was a unique opportunity for us. It fit perfectly with our ambitions,” says this manager. “I keep mentioning it, but we want this to be for everyone, and the Switch is really a platform that allows us to expand the audience.”
Based on this, we can conclude that there are two main reasons. The first would be the clear fit that a LEGO game has on the Nintendo hybrid consoleperhaps being the platform on which this type of title best fits, but on the other hand it seems that the installed base of consoles has had a lot to do with it. It is still the best-selling console of the current generation, and that greatly expands the audience you can access.
The big absentee: Xbox
LEGO Horizon Adventures plans launch during Christmas of this year 2024, receiving versions for PS5, Nintendo Switch and PC. Therefore, at a time when titles like Sea of Thieves are one of the best-selling games on PS5, thanks to Microsoft's change in policy regarding exclusives, it stands out the absence of Xbox in the list of platforms for which this title will be released.
Horizon is an important franchise for Sonyand has given us titles that are considered by many to be part of the best games in history, and perhaps this is why they did not want to launch this installment on Xbox, but it is still curious to see that is the only one absent in this case.
