Last year, an anime hit the small screen that was initially met with skepticism but ended up surprising everyone: Trigun Stampede. This remake of the successful 90s manga received a facelift with a completely new style. Although the original work was already very attractive, it seems that Marvel was one of the great influences behind its success.
In an interview with the American media GameSpot, the producer of the series, Katsuhiro Takeispoke about the production development process and how series creator Yasuhiro Nightow was inspired by Marvel and its successful cinematic universe.
“One of his recommendations was Marvel's Netflix series,” the producer explained. “Since that was when Marvel first rebooted the original classic Marvel titles into modern adaptations, we were very inspired by them. From there, we learned that even if you change so much, as long as there's some respect for the original, it still feels like what the original property is, which was very encouraging.”
Later in the same interview, Takei mentioned that Nightow became obsessed with Netflix's Daredevil and then began watching all the MCU-related projects, starting with the first Iron Man installment. This influence seems to have helped him offer a fresher, more modern take on the franchise.
The result was that Vash and company received a more contemporary update, moving away from the original 90s tone. Although some of the show's loyal fans were not entirely pleased, the approach attracted a younger audience, leading to an interesting increase in viewership.
