The Kotaku and PCGamer media have revealed information that the general director of Ubisoft Montpellier, Guillaume Carmona, had been absent from office since the beginning of 2023 and did not respond to the reason for his departure. This comes after two decades working for Ubisoft. On the other hand, there have been reported various role changes and substitutions important within the team, although the reasons have not been specified.
Together with this information, it was revealed that the study is facing a labor investigation from local government authorities due to an irregularly high number of developers experiencing stress, burnout and taking sick leave. A Ubisoft spokesperson told Kotaku:
The Montpellier development team is undergoing wellness assessments via a third party to take preventative measures and assess where additional support may be needed.
