Romance at first sight exists, even in the world of video games. It was not necessary to squeeze too much Disco Elysium to realize that we were facing one of the best titles in recent years. As is normal, there are prodigal sons of the same and The Thaumaturge has become a new candidate.
The work of Fool’s Theory offers us an isometric RPG in which there is a strong combination between deep narrative, investigation to unravel mysteries and tactical combat. The plot can vary enormously depending on the moral decisions we make, which are not always focused on doing good or committing evil.
The universe of the title takes us to 1905 in Warsaw, the capital of Poland. The city is immersed in the full regime of the Russian Empire, but that is the least of the problems. There is a huge variety of communities, from Jewish merchants, through Russian soldiers and people from all over the globe. That doesn’t stop us from talking about metropolis at a height of prosperitywhich allows us to attend distinguished parties or be mugged in the middle of an alley.
The particularity that the developer has included in this concoction is the presence of the Salutors, mysterious ethereal beings that can be controlled by casters. Their powers allow them to control the will of others and act as partners in battle, but it is an ability that few know about, since the world changes around us as soon as they use their abilities.
Graphically The Thaumaturge will make use of the popular Unreal Engine 5 to offer us a spectacular Warsaw. The variety of situations and ramifications in the plot is absolute, being able to play several games. The title does not have a release date on Steam, so we will have to wait patiently for more news.
