Super Mario Bros. The Movie is being an unprecedented success at the box office. With an exceptional opening and a very good reception by both critics and the public, the plumber’s first animated film on the big screen has everything to create a highly successful franchise.
However, the sequel to this movie will have to wait. As revealed by Chris Pratt, the actor who lends his voice to Mario in the film, the writers’ strike has caused an indefinite pause in meetings to give the green light to a sequel to Super Mario.
“We’re in the middle of a writers’ strike, so everything is on hold for the right reasons. I really support the WGA and our writers. When the negotiations are over and the writers feel comfortable moving forward, then it’s time to start talking about what What’s next. We’re so grateful for the support. I’m amazed at how successful the movie has been. I was hoping people would love it as much as I did, but it’s really multi-generational all over the world. People love it. They love Mario … It’s such a funny, funny, moving movie and, gosh, I can’t believe I’m a part of it.”
The writers strike has caused a widespread hiatus from Hollywood’s most anticipated movies. Without going any further, Marvel has had to stop three projects due to these demonstrations, which raises the possibility that 2024 will be a very problematic year for the film and television industry.
As for the possible sequel to Super Mario Bros., it is likely that we will see Yoshi as hinted at in one of the film’s post-credit scenes. There could also be a journey through the galaxies for an adaptation of Super Mario Galaxy, along with one of the film’s most beloved characters, Lumalee. We can only wait for two things: first, for the strike to end completely; and secondly, that Illumination gets down to work with the script for the sequel.
