The last few weeks have been difficult for Netflix. Users of the streaming platform have seen how prices have increased and many times they cannot enjoy content at 4K resolution. nvidia has unveiled the solution to that problem with the release of RTX Video Super Resolution (VSR).
We are talking about an AI capable of working through browsers such as Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge thanks to a driver already available for the graphics cards belonging to the Series 40 and 30, both on PCs and laptops. This technology takes videos or broadcasts of 360p, at least, and improves the resolution up to 4K or to match that of our screen. In this way, we can upscale videos from popular platforms like Twitch.tv, YouTube, Netflix, Disney+ and Hulu.
The first version of VSR has been available on SHIELD TV since 2019, offering massive image optimization. This AI has been trained through a neural network model which is capable of predicting high-resolution versions and Nvidia GPUs use the Tensor Cores in their guts to get the most out of it.
Well it’s true that Series 20 graphics are left out of the equation and it should be noted that the power consumption skyrockets if we activate the most demanding option for VSR. In any case, you need to have Chrome (version 110.0.5481.105 or higher) and Edge (version 110.0.1587.56) for the tool to be available. After installing the driver, it is only necessary to go to the Nvidia Control Panel, go to the section Adjust the video image settings and choose the option we want in RTX video enhancement. The 1 has a minor impact and the 4 the maximum.
