The company now has two autonomous organizations that will handle different types of games.
After increasing the importance of EA’s sports division in recent years, Andrew Wilson, CEO of the American company, has announced a huge restructuring of the company that is divided into two autonomous organizations the current Electronic Arts. While EA Sports It will keep its name, but with more independence, the part of traditional games, known simply as EA, is renamed EA Entertainment.
“This evolution of our company continues to empower our studio leaders with more creative ownership and financial responsibility for make faster and more insightful decisions on development and commercialization strategies”, said Andrew Wilson during this announcement (VGC)
A new beginning for Electronic Arts
Within this new EA Entertainment, Vince Zampella will head the Apex Legends, Star Wars and Battlefield studios, Samantha Ryan will lead the lifestyle franchises and other single player games, and Jeff Karp will continue to lead the mobile market. At EA Sports, who is still in charge of the sports and racing games of the company is Cam Weber, who has been named president of the organization.
“These steps will accelerate our business, drive growth and deliver value long-term for our people, our players and our communities,” Wilson continues.
This would be the result of the restructuring plan for Electronic Arts announced last March that would end up with up to 6% of its current workforce, including the departure of top executives like Chris Bruzzo, who will step down as chief experience officer, and Chris Suh, a former chief financial officer. Both will be replaced.
We will see in the coming months and years if there is some appreciable change for the consumer after this deep restructuring of EA. For now, we know that one of its star games, Immortals of Aevum, has delayed its launch.
