The launch of Red Dead Online, the multiplayer of Red Dead Redemption II, brought with it a big dilemma for the video game community: what kind of video game did they want to have in the future? The first few days made the mentality of many people very clear: a GTA Online in the west.
It was common to see groups of people killing each other for no reason (and everyone passing by) in the town that had the first missions, Blackwater. “the wild west was like that“, many said erroneously. After a few months of chaos, the community mobilized to kick out these types of people. There are content creators who dedicated themselves to hunting them down.
Certain unwritten rules were established: do not abuse low levels nor of players who do not show hostility. Not be unnecessarily hostile, including not harassing deliveries of goods. Say hello and offer help whenever possible. In other words: rules of coexistence so that everyone can enjoy the experience.
Five years have passed and the community keep following this code…even with new players trying to skip it, either from knowledge or unawareness. An example is Reddit user u/Choice_Kangaroo_8661, who shares a video with the caption: “Low levels aren’t even worth it [matarlos]”.
The video shows how a low level he pulls the lasso to tie him up (common practice of pranksters and some content creators), but does not give in to the provocations despite the insistence. Finally, he throws his bolas at him, ties him up and continues on his way. Before finishing, he is shot in the back and then when pulls out his gun. It is very likely that he ended up with a bullet to the head.
