April 26 may be a key day to know the future of the purchase.
After a long process regarding the approval of the purchase of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft, which, remember, started in January 2022we may soon have a regulatory body that gives its approval, since the CMA will rule at the end of this month of April regarding the decision they make in this matter.
In fact, this is not coming alone, since, for its part, Microsoft is promoting the purchase in a rather curious way, but just like the American company wants it to take place, there are players who are fighting so that it does not take place.
It is the second lawsuit that this group of people presents before the American courts
To put it in context, you should know that last December a joint lawsuit was filed before the US courts by a group of users who positioned themselves against this purchase, and so a judge dismissed it last month arguing that there are no compelling reasons to believe that the merger causes any kind of anti-competitive effect in the market. However, this same judge did not close the possibility that new writings could be presented according to the new information that was known.
It is right here where you can see that this same group has resubmitted another lawsuit in a 73-page document that includes new information extracted from documents drafted and delivered to the Microsoft board of directors and Sony itself, which is being the main opposition company for the purchase to be made.
Notably Microsoft has commented on this lawsuitarguing that it does not pose any threat to them since it is full of unbelievable facts and contradictionsTherefore, knowing that the situation has not changed much compared to a few weeks ago, it seems clear that this second lawsuit will also be dismissed.
For the rest, all that remains is to wait for the CMA’s decision on April 26, while it is possible that depending on what comes out, other regulatory bodies decide to lean their position in one direction or another. Time will tell that ends up happening with Activision Blizzard and Microsoft.
