One of the more lurid details of the development of Half-Life 2.
Considered one of the best games of all time, a book could be written with all the Half-Life 2 trivia, its development process and how it is possible that we will never see its third part. Still, by now, new details about the game keep being discovered, such as where does one of the models in the game come from.
It’s not a very pretty story, but it has been discovered that Valve used the image of a real corpse to make the design of one of their models. It could be said that the study was looking for the maximum possible realism in its models, so they took as a reference what a real human body would look like after being burned.
Half-Life continues to amaze decades later
This is a story shared by Richter Overtime through his Twitter account, where he ensures that “the model ‘corpse01.mdl’ from Half-Life 2 and GMod is textured using real photos of a dead and burned body” taken from a real medical book. So that people could compare it without having to see something so unpleasant at first, he left the images in one of the comments, but apparently violate Twitter guidelines for being too explicit. So you can get an idea.

The original images “are out there if you bother looking a bit,” adds Richter, but that is up to each individual. We are better off with this strange curiosity about the development of Half-Life 2 and the fact that it took almost 20 years for it to come to light. Half-Life 2 was released in 2004. and after its release, Half-Life 3 was in development for a while, although it never saw the light of day. Like other projects in the series such as a game that Arkane Studios was developing, creators of Dishonored. Half-Life: Alyx is the latest official game in the Valve franchise.
